CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) — A pregnancy center that counsels women not to have abortions has moved next door to a women's health facility in Charleston that provides abortions.

Woman's Choice offers free counseling services and pregnancy tests, but no medical services. Women's Health Center of West Virginia is a full-service women's health-care clinic that provides abortions.

Linda Chatting, director of Woman's Choice, told the Charleston Gazette (http://bit.ly/10crUXr ) that the center moved to its new location because the space is bigger and affordable.

When asked if the center's new neighbor was coincidental, Woman's Choice spokesman Matthew Jacob said, "No. Well yeah, sort of. We didn't intend on being there, it's just that building came open and it was really close to where we were before."

Jacob said the location could be beneficial to women because they have to pass by Woman's Choice to get to Women's Health Center.

Sharon Lewis, executive director of Women's Health Center, said she believes the move was an attempt to confuse patients.

"Yes, I would say that they did. Many crisis-pregnancy centers do move next to reproductive-health centers to confuse patients," Lewis said. "We will do everything we can to make sure that patients know where we are and that they don't mistakenly go to their door."

Jacob said the center offers support services to pregnant women and shows them that there are other options, and not just aborition.

Lewis said Women's Health Center also informs women of all their options, and provides family planning, breast and cervical cancer screenings, and pregnancy-support services as well as abortions.

Woman's Choice is one of 46 anti-abortion pregnancy centers in West Virginia and one of eight in the Charleston area.
