(CNN) - Texas state Sen. and Democratic gubernatorial candidate Wendy Davis continues to support women's abortion rights but she wants to reduce the number of abortions, she told a CNN affiliate Monday.
"The goal that we should have is that we see zero abortions," Davis told KGBT. "But in order to achieve that goal we have to make sure that women are receiving the kind of healthcare and planning that they deserve."
Davis owes her national fame to her fight for abortion rights, staging an 11-hour filibuster in the Texas legislature against a restrictive abortion bill. That bill was later passed and is currently facing a legal challenge.
The Fort Worth lawmaker also faced questions about local Texas issues like water rights and her support of allowing drivers licenses for undocumented workers.
Davis will likely face Republican state Attorney General Greg Abbott in next November's election in the race to succeed outgoing longtime GOP Gov. Rick Perry.
What presence if any the pink running shoes Davis wore during her filibuster will have on the campaign trail remains unknown, but it's still a possibility.
"I still have them," she said.
