LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (KTHV) - The Alzheimer's Association is inviting Little Rock residents to unite in a movement to reclaim the future for millions by participating in the Alzheimer's Association Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The event will take place at the First Security Amphitheatre, formerly known as the Riverfest Amphitheatre, on Saturday, November 16, at 8:30 a.m.

Walk to End Alzheimer's is an experience for an estimated 500 participants in Little Rock who will learn about Alzheimer's disease and how to get involved with this critical cause, from advocacy opportunities, the latest in Alzheimer's research and clinical trial enrollment to support programs and services.

In addition to participating in the Walk and joining a meaningful ceremony to honor those affected by Alzheimer's disease, Little Rock residents will enjoy a performance by the Rhythmic Interactive Percussion Ensemble as well as family-friendly activities such as a kids' fun run, petting zoo and kids' zone with games and prizes.

Alzheimer's disease is a growing epidemic and is now the nation's sixth-leading cause of death. As baby boomers age, the number of individuals living with Alzheimer's disease will rapidly escalate, increasing well beyond today's more than 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer's.

At the Walk, a special tribute to those who have experienced or are experiencing Alzheimer's will take place. Through different colors, Alzheimer's Association Promise Garden flowers represent the diverse reasons participants have gathered, and supporters will have an opportunity to write a personal message on their flowers to promote awareness of Alzheimer's and show their dedication to the mission and vision of the Alzheimer's Association. "There has never been a greater need for the citizens of Little Rock to join in the fight against Alzheimer's disease by participating in Walk to End Alzheimer's," said Tracy Dalton, an Alzheimer's Association event chair for the Little Rock Walk to End Alzheimer's. "Funds raised will provide care and support services to the approximately 60,000 residents of Arkansas living with Alzheimer's, while also contributing to advancing critically-needed research."
