What's the most important health habit for women over 50? According to Dr. Oz , Daytime Emmy Award winning host of "The Dr. Oz Show,[1] " paying careful attention to what happens to your body after menopause is crucial. When your body stops producing estrogen, it also stops producing testosterone, which is the key ingredient for creating muscle mass. Without muscle mass, you don't have the metabolic furnace to burn through calories, which leads to weight gain. In order to prevent this, Dr. Oz says that you need to do a little extra in order to maintain your weight and be able to build muscle mass. Women have to lift weights in order to build muscle mass and prevent osteoporosis. Even using your body weight by taking classes like Yoga or Pilates will help fight against the loss of muscle mass.
