The Oregon chapter of the Alzheimer's Association[1] plans a town-hall meeting to update Oregonians on national[2] and state[3] plans in the works to address what's expected to be a surge in cases as Baby Boomers age.

In the United States, as many as 5.1 million people suffer from Alzheimer's; that number could more than double in a few decades.

The association is inviting community members, especially those with Alzheimer's, their caregivers and loved ones, health providers, researchers, care-center operators, and government officials to the meeting, 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at the association's chapter office, 1650 N.W. Naito Parkway, Suite 190.

It will provide information on resources available for those with Alzheimer's and other forms of dementia, and for those who care for them.
