VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) - Walkers from all over Hampton Roads gathered at the Oceanfront Sunday to raise funds for Alzheimer's care and research.

The funds raised on Sunday help the Alzheimer's Association[1] offer care, support, and new research.

One team raised money in honor of former Beach Mayor Meyera Obendorf, who is living with Alzheimer's.

"She's got a real struggle going on in front of her. We have the largest number of walkers here. 101 walkers. And we are the second largest in the amount of money we raised. We raised over $10,000. My wife was the captain of the team, and there was a large number of city employees of Virginia Beach that walked with the team," said Mike Aschkenas, a walk participant.

The total amount of money raised has not yet been announced.
