Upper Chesapeake Health, the not-for-profit company that owns and operates Harford Memorial Hospital in Havre de Grace and the Upper Chesapeake Medical Center in Bel Air, has announced seven people have joined the firm's board of directors.
"The addition of these community leaders to our Board adds a wide breadth of experience in finance, nonprofit management, health care policy, political science and community service," Lyle E. Sheldon, Upper Chesapeake president and CEO, said in a news release.
The new members are:
• William B. Allen, PhD, of Havre de Grace, who is a former professor of political philosophy at Michigan State University. He previously served on the National Council for the Humanities and as member and Chairman of the United States Commission on Civil Rights. He has given guest lectures and other presentations nationally and internationally.
• Franklin J. Hajek, CPA, MBA, founder of Frank Hajek & Associates, P.A. in Bel Air, who has served on various committees and boards in the county including the Harford County Board of Estimates, Liriodendron Foundation, American Heart Association, the John Carroll School, and more. He also serves on the board of directors of Harford Bank and is treasurer and director of The Greater Harford Committee, Inc.
• Robert J. Jirsa, CPA, an assurance partner with McGladrey LLP in Baltimore, who sits on several other boards including The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation. He is a participating member of the Harford County Chamber of Commerce, the National Association of Wholesalers-Distributors, the Association for Corporate Growth, the World Trade Center Institute, and the Technology Council of Maryland. He has been honored more than once by Smart CEO as one of the region's leading CPAs.
• Bryan E. Kelly, MS, CFP, a Harford County native, who co-founder of The Kelly Group in Bel Air. He recently served as chairman of the board of trustees at Harford Community College and participates on its Foundation's board of directors. Some of Kelly's other roles include chairman of the board of the Academy of Finance, Harford County Public Schools; and member of the Harford Leadership Academy Alumni Association at Harford Community College.
• Anne W. Kinsley, who serves as president of The Kinsley Family Foundation, an organization whose primary mission is to improve educational, community, health and family development opportunities in Maryland and Pennsylvania. An active community volunteer, Kinsley serves on the boards of Ladew Gardens, WIFT and The Upper Chesapeake Health Foundation.
• Donald W. Mathis, a former executive director for the Boys & Girls Club of Harford County and current president/CEO of Community Action Partnership of Washington, D.C., who has served on several boards, planning groups and committees including the Cal Ripken Sr. Foundation, the Susquehanna Workforce Investment Board and the Maryland Governor's Commission on Service & Volunteerism, among others.
• William J. Ward Jr., MBA, of Bel Air, who is the director of the Master of Health Administration degree program at The Johns Hopkins University, as well as associate professor of nursing and Sommer Scholars Program faculty director. A principal at Healthcare Management Resources, Inc., Ward is a former senior health care executive with experience in finance and operations.
The board of directors held internal elections and has three new officers: James Lambdin, vice chairman; Adele A. Wilzack, RN, MS, secretary; and Richard P. Streett, VMD, treasurer. Roger E. Schneider, MD, was re-elected as chairman.
