Jack Smith, a 56-year-old veteran leader in the skateboard industry, is joining a team of skateboarders to push across the U.S.A. to raise money and awareness for Alzheimer's Disease. Bustin Boards, a New York-based longboard company, is providing a unique contribution by designing a customizable special edition longboard for the riders and for sale online with proceeds benefiting the Alzheimer's Association.

New York, NY (PRWEB) July 11, 2013

“A Push to Remember" is a month-long adventure where skateboarders united behind a cause are skating across the U.S.A. from the coast of Oregon to New York City. Jack Smith, a veteran leader in the skate industry, became personally vested in this cause after his father became one of the 30 percent of elderly Americans affected by Alzheimer’s disease. He set out to raise money and awareness for the cause by personally joining a team of riders to skateboard across the U.S.A.

Bustin Boards[1] , a New York-based longboard company, is sponsoring the event by providing the riders with fully customized “A Push To Remember” versions of their popular Maestro board[2] designed for long-distance, commuter-style skateboarding. Bustin team riders Melanie Castro and Marc Juvinall have joined forces with Jack and the rest of his team as they take on the grueling 3,000-mile expedition. “This is an amazing campaign initiated and executed by one of the most respected and revered figures in the skate industry [Jack Smith],” says Bustin Boards President Ryan Daughtridge. “Our Maestro board was designed with a slightly flexible forward 'push' camber that is ideal for this kind of long-distance trek and we’re stoked to have Jack and the gang putting our technology to the test in support of this very important cause.” The custom longboard can be designed on the companies interactive ‘A Push To Remember’ Board Builder online[3] and $20 from every deck sold will be contributed directly to the Alzheimer’s Association.

Alzheimer’s Disease is an epidemic growing at a staggering rate but research is underfunded and there is very little treatment offered. In October of 2012, Jack’s father passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's Disease. Now he, his team and his sponsors are making this push in his honor and to raise awareness and $100,000 to help fund care, support, and research in the fight against Alzheimer's.

On July 4th, 2013, the five person team, ranging in age from 20 to 56, set off to push their skateboards 3,000 miles from Newport, Oregon to New York City, New York in a little over three weeks. After a ceremonial start in Morro Bay, California, the team headed to their starting point in Newport, Oregon. Their route will take them through Oregon, Idaho, Wyoming, South Dakota, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Pennsylvania And New York. Approximately three weeks and 3,000 miles later, they will arrive in New York City, New York.
