Mae Louise Allen Mays, the wife of legendary baseball player Willie Mays, has died at age 74. She had battled Alzheimer's disease for years, reported the Washington Post on April 19.


Willie Mays married Mayo Louise Allen in 1971; she was his second wife. The couple was married for 41 years. The couple made their home in the Bay Area. Mays made the statement about this wife's passing through the San Francisco Giants, saying that she died in her sleep on Friday morning.


Willie Mays is a Hall of Fame baseball player who spent the brunt of his career playing professional ball for the San Francisco Giants. Mays has been called the greatest all-around baseball player in the MLB history by many analysts. Mays ended his career with 660 home runs, third at the time of his retirement, and currently fourth all-time. Mays was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1979.
