Wyoming Dementia Care will begin offering its first evening Alzheimer’s caregiver support group at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 and 24. at Park Place Assisted Living, 1930 E. Twelfth St. The new group will continue to meet at the same location and time the second and fourth Wednesday of each month. Alzheimer’s caregiver support group sessions are approximately one hour long.
Caregivers are welcome to bring their loved ones along to the evening support group sessions. Professional staff will be on hand to offer separate activities and snacks for those who need care. Kelly Shipley, a group counselor from Central Wyoming Counseling will also attend. Wyoming Dementia Care’s day time Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Group will continue to meet at 10 a.m. on the first and third Thursday of each month at Central Wyoming Senior Services, 1831 E. 4th St., Casper. Refreshments are provided by the Senior Center and the CWCC group counselor attends. No staff is currently available to care for loved ones or family members at the daytime groups.
Alzheimer’s Caregiver Support Groups are places for caregivers to meet as friends. Those who take part offer each other encouragement, techniques and resources to meet the challenges of caring for their loved ones with Alzheimer’s or dementia. The groups are places to share concerns, to hear new information and to learn how other caregivers handle problems.
There is no cost to participate in any of the support groups. All caregivers of those with dementia-related problems are welcome at any of the day or evening sessions.
