The Community Health Fair offered free health screenings and displayed equipment that can help track loved ones who suffer from dementia or Alzheimer's disease. Project Lifesaver is designed to locate missing people suffering from dementia, Autism and down syndrome who often wander off and get lost. Patients can wear either a wristband or ankle band which has an FM radio transmitter inside of it that tracks them.
"If they would get out of the house and wander off, the caregiver calls the Sheriff's office and either I, or several other people that are trained to use this, we come out and we have receivers, we punch in the frequency of that individual client and through that radio transmission we can track them," said Sgt. Steve Blake.
Muskingum County Sgt. Steve Blake and Zanesville City Council President Dan Vincent tested out the equipment at the Community Health Fair in Colony Square Mall this afternoon to show residents just how beneficial the device is.
"We ask for a donation of 10-dollars a month which covers the cost of the battery replacement. But if anybody is unable to pay that, we don't insist on it."
If you are a caregiver of someone suffering from dementia, you can get a wristband by calling the Muskingum County Sheriff's Office at 740-452-3637
