Officers of the Indiana Department of Natural Resources are investigating the death of a South Whitley woman, whose body was found in a pond Sunday morning.


At approximately 10:50 a.m. Sunday, the Whitley County Sheriff’s Department Dispatch received a report that the body of Bonnie Knetter, 74, was located in a pond near her home at 7550 W. 500 S., South Whitley. According to a press release, Knetter suffered from Alzheimer’s disease.


Family members of the victim went to check on her this morning and were not able to locate her at her apartment. They immediate began a search and located her body in the pond, a few hundred feet from the residence.


Knetter was pronounced deceased by EMS on scene. The death remains under investigation. An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death.


Agencies assisting on scene included the South Whitley Police Department, Whitley County Sheriff’s Dept, Indiana State Police and Whitley County EMS.
