-- The DMC Foundation’s adult day health care program, Miller’s Place, closed last week because of financial problems. Officials could not be reached for comment.

The Alzheimer’s day care facility — for which the clients’ families paid $35 per day privately — was the only one of its kind serving Stanislaus, San Joaquin and Tuolumne counties, DMC Foundation Executive Director Victor Montes said. And 49 full- and part-time employees are now out of work.

In March, Montes told The Bee that the foundation suffered from a number of financial problems, including the way the state now pays for services. Some clients failed to fill out the paperwork properly, costing the agency $20,000 for unreimbursed services. Montes said the foundation was $80,000 in the red, was two months behind on payroll taxes and was owed $25,000 by an insurance provider.

Also, the Alzheimer’s Aid Society of Northern California in February moved out of the space it rented from the foundation, which lost $1,900 a month in rent income.
