NEW YORK (CBSNewYork) – Manhattan Borough President Scott Stringer has called for a citywide plan to help those with Alzheimer’s disease and the people who care for them.

The move comes on the heels of a new survey released by the Alzheimer’s Association.

The association is predicting that within 40 years, 20 percent of all New Yorkers will either have Alzheimer’s or be caring for someone who does, WCBS 880′s Jim Smith reported Sunday.

“Alzheimer’s disease is a community problem, it’s not a problem for an individual,” New York City chapter president Lou-Ellen Barkan said.

The organization announced it’s teaming up with Stringer to create a plan of action before it’s too late.
