The Rev. Billy Graham's son said Friday that the legendary evangelist's health is declining.
In speaking to WSOC-TV at a Christmas charity event at the Billy Graham library in Charlotte, Franklin Graham said the health of his 95-year-old father, who was hospitalized for two days last month with a respiratory issue, "has declined quite a bit in the last few days."
"He just hasn't been able to get his strength back," Franklin Graham said. "His vitals are good, but he's just extremely weak."
The younger Graham added that he wasn't sure if his father knew that Nelson Mandela passed away.
Billy Graham, who has been in ill health for a number of years, has been regularly listed in polls as one of the "Ten Most Admired Men in the World."
His Christian crusades have taken him from the frenzy of Manhattan to isolated African villages and according to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association website, he preached to more people in live audiences than anyone else in history.
The BGEA put his audience at nearly 215 million people in more than 185 countries and territories, with "hundreds of millions more" viewing him on television, video, film and webcasts.
"My one purpose in life," he said, "is to help people find a personal relationship with God, which, I believe, comes through knowing Christ."
