Family support groups for Alzheimer's and prostate cancer will hold special sessions this week through Riverside Medical Clinic Foundation.


Mary Hrinko of the Riverside County Office on Aging will present “Resources for Family Caregivers” at the Wednesday, Sept. 11, meeting of the Riverside Medical Clinic Foundation's Alzheimer's Family and Caregiver Support Group.


Hrinko will discuss options available for adult day care, respite care, counseling and education workshops.


The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in Conference Rooms 1 and 2 on the lower level of Riverside Medical Clinic, 7117 Brockton Ave. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. The group session is free and participants do not need to be patients of the Riverside Medical Clinic to attend. Spouses, partners, caregivers, adult family members and friends are welcome.

Riverside Medical Clinic Foundation will partner with Riverside Community Hospital to offer “Men's Health Game Day,” a prostate cancer awareness event, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 12, at Riverside Community Hospital's Health Education Center, 4445-A Magnolia Ave. in Riverside.


Come dressed in your favorite football team jersey. This dinner and lecture will be held in lieu of the Foundation’s regularly scheduled Prostate Cancer Family Support Group meeting at Riverside Medical Clinic's Health Education Room.


This year's speakers panel includes Dr. Afshin Rashtian, medical director of radiation oncology at The Cancer Center at Riverside Community Hospital; Dr. Nimish Thaker, of the Inland Empire Urology Medical Group; and Riverside Medical Clinic urologist and Prostate Cancer Family Support Group founder Dr. Alex Batta, Understanding prostate cancer risk and treatment options will be discussed, including robotic surgery, the CyberKnife, and cryotherapy.


A complimentary buffet dinner will be served at 6 p.m., and the program will begin at 7. This is a free meeting and is open to the general public. Participants do not need to be patients of the Riverside Medical Clinic to attend. Prostate cancer patients, spouses, partners, adult family members and close friends are welcome.
