The Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association[2] will host its annual Katy/West Houston Walk to End Alzheimer's at 8:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, 23501 Cinco Ranch Blvd.
The annual Walk to End Alzheimer's, which is held in more than 600 communities across the country, is the largest awareness and fundraising event for Alzheimer's care, support and research in the United States.
This is the 12th year the walk has been held in Katy and its seventh year at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch, said Ann Marie McDonald[3] , regional outreach coordinator for the Houston and Southeast Texas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association.
"The Walk to End Alzheimer's unites the entire community - family, friends, co-workers, social and religious groups and more - in a display of combined strength and dedication in the fight against this devastating disease," McDonald said.
Although registering for the walk is free, all registrants will be expected to participate in fundraising to help the Alzheimer's Association reach its goal. This year, the association hopes to raise more than $128,000 for Alzheimer's care, support and research.
"Participating in the walk means that the Alzheimer's Association can continue to provide educational programs, support and research. Participants also learn more about Alzheimer's disease and the support programs and services offered," McDonald said.
The Alzheimer's Association will also host a post-walk celebration at LaCenterra at Cinco Ranch. Participants can enjoy light refreshments, live music and a special appearance by the Chick-fil-A cow.
"People who participate in the walk will have the pride of being a part of a good cause, a fun time, light refreshments and a sense of unity," McDonald said.
