"Big box" stores might have trimmed the time it takes to run our weekend errands, but we'd be lying if we said we didn't feel nostalgic for the days of the butcher, the baker and the candlestick maker. Alright, maybe we've never met a candlestick maker. Clearly, we don't live in Brooklyn.
This archival video from the 1950s shows us a (sanitized) look of what life was like when grocers were on Main Street and the milkman delivered your dairy products. While this clip is closer to a movie than a documentary, it does make us think of what our communities are missing when we championed convenience over community. Namely, an opportunity to know the people who make up our neighborhoods, along with how you could do your errands by foot rather than by car (for the most part).
