Taking vitamins or supplements seems commonplace, but could all that self-medicating actually be harmful to your health? It's a slippery slope for a consumer to navigate, with many unregulated products flooding the market.


Dr. Paul Offit, author of "Do You Believe In Magic? The Sense and Nonsense of Alternative Medicine,"[1] recently joined HuffPost Live to discuss. Offit, who is the chief of infectious diseases at The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, said that "mega vitamins," those pills that boast having an excess of the recommended daily dose of some nutrients, can actually contribute to an increased risk of heart disease and cancer.
