Two new campaign ads are on the air in the Richmond area, one of them the Republican Governors Association’s first TV spot of the Virginia governor’s race.
The Democratic Party of Virginia has also released a new ad, which hits Republican gubernatorial nominee Ken Cuccinelli over abortion.

The RGA ad focuses on Democratic nominee Terry McAuliffe’s business background. “Instead of creating jobs in Virginia, Terry McAuliffe is betting on China,” the narrator says. “Can you trust Terry McAuliffe?”
A McAuliffe campaign spokesman responded: “Ken Cuccinelli’s Washington backers are attacking Terry to avoid talking about Cuccinelli’s extreme social agenda and ongoing ethics scandals.”
The RGA last week reported a $717,561 in-kind donation for a media buy.
Virginia’s governor’s race is one of only two in the country this year, and both campaigns are seeing money pumped in from out of state. The RGA spending is in addition to the $2 million it has given Cuccinelli’s campaign. The Democratic Governors Association has also given McAuliffe’s campaign $2 million.
The Democrats are also on the air with a new ad regarding abortion, which comes on the heels of a spot focused on Social Security and Medicare.
“At the end of the day, this race will be about which candidate the voters can trust,” said Cuccinelli spokeswoman Anna Nix. “Virginians will not stand with a candidate whose word has no worth and who refuses to address important issues, such as the recently revealed investigation into the visa program benefiting the company he headed.”
