CAMDEN Maine author Tess Gerritsen has launched an online campaign to raise money to battle Alzheimers, the disease her father died of.

On the fund-raising website Gofundme.com/War-On-Alzheimers people are encouraged to donate to the cause. Each $5 donation gets the donors name entered in a raffle. The prize, awarded to two winners, will be the chance to name one character each in Gerritsens next Rizzoli & Isles novel, coming out in 2014.

Gerritsen, who lives in Camden, is best known for works of medical suspense, including the Rizzoli & Isles series focusing on a detective and medical examiner working together. The series was made into a TV series and is currently seen on the TNT cable network.

Gerritsen, who is traveling outside the country and could not be reached for comment, has said she will match every dollar raised on the website, up to $25,000. The proceeds will go to the Scripps Research Institute.
