With this abortion doctor from the Philadelphia area having been found guilty of murder and sentenced to life imprisonment for killing babies or letting them die through lack of care and sustenance ("Doctor given 2 life terms in abortion case," May 15) — all in clear violation of his Hippocratic oath to preserve life by all available means and methods — I got to thinking about some questions I'd like to ask.
How many more abortionists like Kermit Gosnell are out there doing basically the same thing? Wasn't there a state senator in Illinois who voted three times to amend the law to allow babies born after a botched abortion to wither away without care in some closet or laundry room?
What does an abortionist get for performing a procedure? And who pays it, directly or indirectly? The taxpayers? And maybe at $1,000 each? Since abortions were legalized by the Supreme Court around 40 years ago, it has been reported that around 50 million abortions have been performed. At $1,000 each, that's $50 billion. A lot of good work, promoting healthy, affordable and useful lives, could have been achieved for $50 billion. If it's $2,000 a pop, that's $100 billion.
Since abortions were legalized by the Supreme Court, has the reinvigorated pro-choice crowd helped to make our country a better, cleaner and safer place to live and raise a family? I don't think so. If you can kill a baby a day before its normal birth or during its conception just because it's inconvenient why can't you kill a live baby a year after its birth for the same reason?
At the other end of life's cycle — the alleged "golden age" — why can't the government terminate these retirees who are no longer contributing to society financially (and kill them in a peaceful soothing environment, of course)? Aren't these retirees just sucking up a lot of dollars that could be used for others?
Is this what America has (or will) come down to?
