INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) - It's Blondes versus Brunettes -- back for it's third year supporting the Alzheimer's Association of Greater Indiana.
The flag football game kicked off at 1 p.m. at Midwest Sports Complex on New Augusta Road. The two teams are divided based on the age-old rivalry between blondes and brunettes.
It was a fun way to raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease among a new generation.
In Indiana alone, there are more than 120,000 residents who suffer from Alzheimer's, and for their loved ones it can be an especially hard disease.
"In 2011 I lost by grandmothers to Alzheimer's so playing today really means a lot to me and I'm here for her and raising funds throughout the past couple of months have all been in her honor and I'm really excited to be here today to play for Nana," said Jackie Koumpouras, who played in Saturday's game.
In the last two years, Blondes vs. Brunettes has raised more than $42,000 to support Indiana residents living with Alzheimer's disease.
The Blondes took the win Saturday -- the team's first time winning in the game. This year's event has raised at least $25,000 so far, with donations still coming in, according to Communications Director with the Alzheimer's Association, Joanna Rosenthal.
