During a congressional committee hearing Thursday about a proposal to criminalize abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy, a woman named Christy Zink testified against the idea that abortions after that time cause “fetal pain,” as the proposal’s advocates suggest. Her argument—which angered many in attendance—centered on the fact that delivering her baby meant subjecting him to considerable pain for the rest of his life. Rep. Louie Gohmert (R-TX) denounced Zink openly saying she should have given birth and gauged his quality of life before deciding “to rip him apart." It would’ve been a “more educated” decision, he said.
