Alzheimer’s disease is not a normal part of aging. It is a progressive and fatal brain disease that is the most common form of dementia. The Alzheimer’s Association is the world leader in Alzheimer’s care, support and research. Increase concern and awareness for Alzheimer’s disease and dementia and enhancing care and support for those affected are two pillars of our organization. The Alzheimer’s Association, Central New York Chapter is pleased to offer the following free public education programs to educate and inform the community. Know the 10 Signs: Early Detection Matters

If you or someone you know is experiencing memory loss of behavioral changes, it’s time to learn the facts. This program will discuss the warning signs of Alzheimer’s, what to do if you see the signs in yourself or someone you love, getting a diagnosis and medication options. Reservations are required.

This program discusses the difference between normal aging and dementia, explores how the brain works, defines dementia and goes through the different stages of the disease, explains the importance of clinical trials and gives an overview of the programs and services offered by the Alzheimer’s Association. Legal and Financial Planning for Alzheimer’s Disease

If you or someone you know is affected by Alzheimer’s disease or dementia, planning for the future is important. This two-part series will give an overview of pertinent legal documents such as wills, powers of attorney, and health care proxies, as well as an overview of financial issues and options like Medicare, Medicaid or veterans benefits. It is strongly recommended that you attend both sessions and reservations are required.

Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Late Stage provides strategies for care during this critical time. Attendees will hear from caregivers and professionals about resources, monitoring care and ways to engage in meaningful connections. Living With Alzheimer’s For Caregivers: Middle Stage

In the middle stage of Alzheimer’s disease, care partners now become hands-on caregivers. Living with Alzheimer’s for Caregivers: Middle Stage to assist families during their journey. This program is designed to provide caregivers with the knowledge, tools and strategies needed to cope with a diagnosis of Alzheimer’s or related dementia. Hear from those directly affected and learn what you need to know, what you need to plan and what you can do at each point along the way. It is strongly recommended that you attend both sessions and reservations are required.
