Alzheimer’s is the United States’ sixth leading cause of death; it is the only top 10 cause of death without a way to prevent, cure or slow its progression. Of the millions of Americans living with the disease, more than 32,000 live in Utah.

We urgently need better treatments for Alzheimer’s. We need better ways to identify those at risk for getting the disease, so we can intervene earlier.

As ambassadors of the Utah chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association, we are going to Washington, D.C., to join a thousand others individuals to appeal to our members of Congress for action.

Beverly is living with Alzheimer’s, and Bill is one of the nation’s nearly 15 million Alzheimer caregivers. As first-hand witnesses, we will inform our senators and representatives what this disease is doing families like ours.

President Barack Obama’s proposed 2014 budget proposal includes $100 million in additional funding to support the National Alzheimer’s Plan for research, awareness, education, outreach and caregiver support.

Please encourage your senators and representative to support funding for the National Alzheimer’s Plan.
