PORTLAND – A bracelet designed to monitor people suffering from Alzheimer ’s disease may have saved the life of a Washington County woman, deputies said.
On Sunday at 5:45 p.m., Washington County Deputies arrived at a Cedar Mill home in order to assist a man who said his wife had wandered off. The woman suffered from Alzheimer ’s disease, and outside temperatures were in the 30s and expected to reach freezing that night.
The man feared for his wife’s safety. In December, a Longview woman froze to death outside her Alzheimer’s care facility after staff their failed to check on her.

Deputies said the Cedar Hills woman had a history of wandering off. But she had enrolled in a program called Project Lifesaver and wore an electronic tracking bracelet.
Using the tracking equipment, deputies said they were able to locate the woman in less than two hours.
