Texas Gov. Rick Perry on Monday appeared to walk back a remark by his wife recently that abortion is “a women’s right”, according to a new report.
“From time to time we’ll stick the wrong word in the wrong place, and you pounce upon it,” the staunchly anti-abortion rights Republican governor told reporters in New Jersey, Bloomberg News reported.
Texas first lady Anita Perry said on Saturday that abortion “could be a women’s right, just like it’s a man’s right if he wants to have some kind of procedure. But I don’t agree with it, and that’s not my view.”
Perry’s comments came at a campaign event with GOP Senate hopeful Steve Lonegan, who is squaring off for the New Jersey Senate seat with Newark Mayor Cory Booker, the Democratic candidate and expected winner of the Oct. 16 special election.
