[1]

The stress and strain of constantly being connected can sometimes take your life -- and your well-being -- of course. GPS For The Soul can help you find your way back to balance.

GPS Guides are our way of showing you what has relieved others' stress in the hopes that you will be able to identify solutions that work for you. We all have de-stressing "secret weapons" that we pull out in times of tension or anxiety, whether they be photos that relax us or make us smile, songs that bring us back to our heart, quotes or poems that create a feeling of harmony, or meditative exercises that help us find a sense of silence and calm. We encourage you to look at the GPS Guide below, visit our other GPS Guides here[2] , and share with us your own personal tips for finding peace, balance and tranquility.

Whether it's forgetting to call your grandmother or blowing off a friend, the smallest mistakes can weigh us down with an enormous amount of guilt. But if guilt is "just a feeling[3] , maybe it's easier than we think to change our mindset and release those negative thoughts. This guide will give you suggestions on ways to let go of the guilt you feel and start living your wonderful and happy life.

  • 1. Take A Step Back

We can get so caught up in negative thoughts that we don't even realize the true cause of our guilt. Take a moment for meditation -- sitting in silence or <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jane-brunette/writing-meditation_b_4035166.html" target="_blank">writing in a journal </a>-- to discover the real source of what's making you feel bad. Getting it out will release negative energy that keeps you from moving forward.

  • 2. Talk It Out

<a href="http://www.rd.com/advice/relationships/healthy-ways-to-deal-with-guilt/" target="_blank">Talking out your guilty feelings</a> with a friend may make you realize that what you thought others felt about you actually wasn't true at all.

  • 3. Prioritize

Making a list of your values can give you a better understanding of why you acted the way you did. Realizing that in that moment something took priority can give you a better perspective of the situation and help you let go. Practice repeating <a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/04/25/positive-affirmations-de-stressing-mantras_n_3047604.html" target="_blank">positive mantras</a> and make sure to give yourself some praise for everything that went <em>right</em>.

  • 4. Forgive And Focus

It's time to<a href="http://www.huffingtonpost.com/dr-debbie-magids/letting-go-of-guilt_b_3322559.html" target="_blank"> forgive yourself for the "shoulds"</a>. Obsessing over what you could have done in the past is keeping you from focusing on the present. You have the ability to be proactive. Address your guilt and make amends with whomever you feel you've wronged. It will lift the weight right off your shoulders.

  • 5. Set Aside Time For You

Guilt may set in when we realize we don't have enough hours in the day. Prioritize time for yourself to do whatever it is that makes you happy. Without this buffer, you may <em>always</em> feel pulled by obligations.
