A former hostess at the Heart Attack Grill called the restaurant[1] an “unprofessional” and “terribly depressing” place to work during a Reddit AMA Tuesday.
The former hostess’ name was not made available during the question-and-answer session, but she did[2] provide photos[3] of herself as proof of her employment:
The Las Vegas-based restaurant, which did not immediately respond to a request for comment, has welcomed bad press since its creation. The restaurant offers[4] a 10,000 calorie “Quadruple Bypass Burger,” allows anyone weighing over 350 pounds to eat for free and provides an address on its website for “Hate Mail.”
In the AMA, the hostess even claimed that her manager once made her record a video of a man who passed out “so they could send it to the media.”
“What was it like being surrounded by the fall of western civilization?” a Redditor asked the former hostess. “It was terribly depressing," she responded. "[E]veryday we would have 5-10 people come in who actually qualify for the free meal. And that's when I would feel bad about contributing to their bad health. “
A separate Redditor asked what made her ultimately leave the establishment.
“Ultimately it was the work environment,” she wrote. "Extremely unorthodox, unprofessional, and chaotic.”
The Heart Attack Grill has found itself in the news repeatedly in recent years. Earlier this month, founder Jon Basso held up a bag[5] of what he claimed were “the cremated remains of someone who died at my restaurant” during an appearance on Bloomerg’s In the Loop:
"I am probably the only restaurateur in the entire world who is unapologetically telling you that my food is bad for you, that it will kill you and that you should stay away from it," he added.

CORRECTION: A previous version of this post mistakenly identified the former employee as a waitress. She referred to herself as a hostess.
