CHAMPAIGN — Participants are being sought to take part in a walk being held Sept. 21 in Champaign to benefit the Alzheimer's Association Greater Illinois Chapter.
The 3-mile walk will be held starting at 10 a.m. in Centennial Park, Champaign, and will also include a tribute ceremony honoring those with Alzheimer's disease, says Jocelyn Lamartina, the organization's special events manager.
The ceremony will include speakers and the planting of flowers, she said.
"It's an absolutely beautiful and wonderfully moving ceremony," she added.
Pre-registration for this event is preferred by Sept. 19, but walkers can still register on the day of the walk starting at 8 a.m. The ceremony will likely start between 9 a.m. and 9:30 a.m., Lamartina said.
The fundraising goal is $40,000, with all proceeds kept for the Illinois chapter to benefit research, care navigation and support for Illinois Alzheimer's patients, she said.
There aren't any requirements for the amount of money to be raised per individual walker, but anyone raising $100 or more will receive a T-shirt, Lamartina said.
Also still needed in addition to walkers are volunteers to help with set-up, serve as guides and do other tasks for the event.
